PlayNow.com Receives Responsible Gambling Accreditation

PlayNow.com, the online gambling site operated by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has become the first Internet site to be accredited by the RG Check - Internet program. This program is run by the Responsible Gambling Council. RG Check - Internet is an international accreditation program that was launched in 2014. It is a voluntary program that online gambling sites can subscribe to. In this program the online gambling operators can have the responsible gambling safeguards and practices of their web sites assessed against independent and evidence-based standards.

Responsible Gambling Council CEO Jon Kelly congratulated PlayNow.com and said, “By becoming RG Check accredited, PlayNow.com has shown that it meets a rigorous set of responsible gambling standards.” This accreditation will help the online gambling web site draw more customers into its fold. Kelly also showered praise on BCLC for taking the bold step to subject its web site to this independent assessment of their player safety net. PlayNow.com was established in 2004 for offering online lottery products. In 2010 it became the first online casino to be licensed and regulated in North America. In 2011 it launched peer-to-peer online poker in partnership with Loto-Québec.

The press report further revealed that PlayNow.com was audited over several months against seven standards by the RG Check team. These important facets included responsible gambling policies, employee training, self-ban facility, assistance offered to players with compulsive gambling problem, informed decision making, advertising and promotion and game and site features. These standards involved 51 check points. The audit team generated the basic data through written documents and interviews and surveys of both players and staff. An independent panel then took the final decision to award the accreditation based on the report by RG Check team.

BCLC's Social Responsibility and Communications Vice President, Susan Dolinski also released a statement on behalf of the corporation. She pointed out that the 36 land based gaming facilities operated by BCLC were already recognized for their commitment to responsible gambling. Now the online gambling site has also received similar acclaim. Dolinski said, “This certification verifies that the quality and effectiveness of responsible gambling initiatives extend beyond the land-based facilities and into our online presence. Raising awareness of responsible gambling and resources for problem gambling is important to us, and should be readily available to players wherever they choose to play.” The report clarified that the accreditation included all PlayNow.com online products, with the exception of poker games. The accreditation certificate is valid for three years.
