Quebec Provincial Online Casino Delivers Outstanding Results

Espace Jeux, the online casino operated by the provincial government of Quebec, has reported an increase in online gaming revenue for the first half of the fiscal year. Espace Jeux functions as a part of Loto-Quebec, which also manages other gambling verticals.

The online gaming revenues of Espace Jeux saw a rise of 24% to CA$35.2 million. It is now almost certain that the revenues from the full current year will easily outpace the previous fiscal year's total online revenue of CA$66.2 million. Loto-Quebec has said that the reason for this fantastic performance is the wider variety of gaming options it now offers. This has led to enhanced customer experience and therefore to increase in gaming revenues. Incidentally Espace Jeux will celebrate its sixth birthday at the start of December.

The revenue increase at the online casino has outpaced all other verticals of Loto-Quebec. The revenues from the lottery division fell 2.3% to CA$852.6 million. The main reason attributed to this fall was that fewer major jackpots were being offered. Land-based casino revenue arose nearly 5% to CA$421.4 million. This is far short of the 24% increase in the online casino revenues. The land casino business has been good because of the vigorous tourist influx fuelled by the weakness of the Canadian dollar versus the US dollar. Gaming halls also reported a 1% rise in revenue to CA$491 million.

Across the entirety of Loto-Quebec, the revenue recorded was CA$1.75 billion for the six months ending September 26. This is essentially the same as the first half of the previous fiscal year. Tighter control over expenses has however allowed profit to rise to CA$639 million which is a 3.5% increase.

The provincial online gambling sites across Canada are realising that variety in offering is the key to success. British Columbia's Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch (GBEB) has accorded approval to NYX online casino software provider. This has led to the fulfilment of the final condition required to finalise its acquisition of OpenBet. Now NYX games should be coming soon to British Columbia’s PlayNow online casino.

Matt Davey, NYX Chief executive said, “I'm delighted to announce the approval by the GPEB in British Columbia. Through the acquisition of OpenBet, NYX has positioned itself as the only end-to-end digital gaming supplier in regulated markets.” He pointed out that the teams at NYX, OpenBet and at GPEB have worked tirelessly to reach this point. He hoped to complete the remaining formalities and deliver the gaming content as scheduled.
