The Sportsbetting Bill C-290 Is Still Being Pushed by Reformers in Canada

Bill C-290 is a Senate issue that just doesn’t seem to want to die. This bill, if passed, will make single game Sportsbetting legal at online gambling sites in Canada. Of course, this is a paltry gesture towards the online gambling industry in Canada. Especially in light of the recent disasters that have befallen Canadian online gamblers with regard to many major online casino sites withdrawing from Canada, and many other companies that server the online gambling industry, such as payment gateway Skrill, ceasing operations in the county.

People who are still supporting Bill C-290 and are keen to get single game Sportsbetting legalized within Canada, are planning to start a public awareness campaign, that will hopefully gather support for the Sportsbetting Bill C-290 amongst members of the public. The Canadian Chamber of Commerce has also been pushing for the legalization of single game Sportsbetting in Canada, and has been lobbying the Senate since the start of the year to star moving Bill C-290 forward. The bill seems to have been stuck for some time, having first been introduced almost two years ago, but it now seems to be gathering momentum once again, which is very good news for Canadian online gamblers who enjoy Sportsbetting, even if it will only be a single game wager at a time.

Brian Masske, who is the MP for Windsor West is one of the major supporters of the Bill, and he has said that, “They need to deal with the fact that the House of Commons, the elected members of this country, voted in favour of creating a law to allow single-event sportsbetting to exist in provinces that choose that.”

If Bill C-290 ever comes in to effect, then it will make the local provincial governments in Canada decide for themselves whether single game Sportsbetting would be allowed via online gambling sites. It is believed that online gamblers in most provinces of Canada would be expecting their local provincial governments to make singe game Sportsbetting legal at online gambling sites. Indeed, many provinces already run some form of online gambling site via the local lottery company, and it could well be that we see Sportsbetting added to the services these often feature limited sites provide. This would go some way to making them better online gambling sites for Canadian citizens to play at, as at the moment, they are outclassed by international online casino operators.
